Excursion Day

Springfield and the St. Louis Riverfront


On Thursday, July 21, Congress participants who have signed up for the Excursion will board buses at 9:00 am and travel to Springfield, Illinois (further info), a ride of an hour and a half. There we will get a taste of “small town America” and visit such notable sites as:
the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum (further info)
the Old State Capitol (further info)
the Lincoln Home National Historic Site (further info)
the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (further info)
Returning to the St. Louis riverfront around 5:00 pm, there will be time to explore the Arch grounds (further info), including such notable sites as:
the Gateway Arch itself (further info)
the Arch Museum, beneath the Arch (further info)
the Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, or “Old Cathedral” (further info)
Finally, at 6:30 pm we will board the riverboat Becky Thatcher for a dinner cruise on the mighty Mississippi River, “Father of Waters,” which lasts from 7:00 to 9:00 pm (further info).
